Cat and Mouse by Bob Baker. Many thanks to Bob who sent us this clever poem. Here’s the story of Martin Mouse, Who lived inside a great big house. Now Martin lived there happily, Then cats appeared, 1 2 and 3. The owners did not want a mouse Living in their lovely house. Martin felt quite sick inside, He turned around to run and hide. Children - you'll know where he is. He wears an M, just like this.
The first cat’s name was Marmalade A clever cat, he thought he made. He went and hid beside the hole, To catch poor Martin, and eat him whole. Look, so you know he is still there, He has an M marked on his hair. Now we all know that Marmalade, Begins with M, that's how it's made.
Marmaduke is number two, He looks just like…you know who. The next cat, Marmite’s number three; He's orange too, as you can see. They chased poor Martin round and round; You should have heard the awful sound. In the kitchen, up the stairs, They hunted him in ones and pairs. But boys and girls, did you watch closely? Which one’s Martin, did you see? In all that chaos, I forgot Which one’s Martin, in this lot? Is it this card, number one? No, that's Marmite, what have I done? Perhaps it's this card, number two It's Marmaduke, what shall we do? It must be this one, number three. We’ll turn him round and then we’ll see. It's Marmalade, well I never! Where is that mouse? He’s more than clever!
How did he manage to disappear? He’s in his hole, look, over here. Well I say, there he is, A magic mouse Martin is. He fooled the cats - and you as well. There’s really nothing more to tell. Clap your hands until they’re smartin’ For a clever mouse, that’s Magic Martin.
