Rainbow Plume Here's a great routine from Geoff Lucas Hello Jeremy, Here is my routine for the Rainbow Plume. When I first bought this item from you I loved the colours and prop but wanted to get more time out of it so have used this routine for a few years now and it goes over very well. Hope you like it. Required: Rainbow Plume, Thumb tip, Multi coloured streamer (about an inch wide), and a small black film canister with lid. I actually use a Vernet item called ‘always full-always empty’. It’s perfect for this trick but a film canister will suffice. Load streamer in to tip in canister. Hello boys and girls, last week it was my wife’s 35th birthday-can anyone guess how old she is? Kids yell out 35. My goodness how did you know that? You just told us. Oops! Anyway i bought my wife a very special present and I keep it in this tube -would you like to see it? It’s a beautiful white feather duster. Isn’t it lovely-I thought if she gets on ok with it, next year I’ll buy her a Hoover (or dust pan and brush). Actually she hated it - she said that it’s no good as it will show all the marks and dust -it’s the wrong colour. She wanted a multi coloured duster-you know with green, red ,pink, yellow and blue. I was so disappointed -after all it cost me 50p. So I said I would take it back to the shop and change it for a multi coloured one. (Put plume in tube.) Anyway I went to the feather duster shop and explained to the shop assistant that my wife wanted a multi coloured feather duster. He said that’s impossible -we only sell white ones. (Take plume out of tube and show kids again.) So I thought we might be able to magic a coloured one-shall we have a try? Kids say yes. I’ll just put the duster in the holder for a minute. (You can give a boy or girl the tube to hold now - also give them a wand to hold in the other hand and this will avoid any inquisitive actions from your helper). Right, do you know what I have here? (Hold up canister). Boys and girls shout out "a film canister". Equally, it could be a cup or whatever. No, it’s a rainbow maker or colour catcher. (Show container empty by taking lid off and stealing thumb tip out with streamer in.) Put lid back on after showing empty. Have you ever wondered where the colours of a rainbow go? Well, this will catch colours. All we have to do is reach up into the air and grab some colours. Get kids to take colours from their clothes etc and throw towards canister. Pretend to catch colours etc getting one in the eye, one on your helper’s nose etc. Finally after some bits of business reach into canister and pull out a rainbow streamer. Get kids to applaud their efforts. Take plume from tube and wrap or twirl streamer around it (a bit like twirling a candy floss). Say oh dear that doesn’t look right-my wife wont like that –she’ll hit me with her broom. Let’s try more magic. This time place plume into tube ready for final effect. Vanish streamer into thumb tip-throw colours into the air and get boy or girl to try and catch colours into top of tube (or do it yourself) Finally peep into tube and say, I’m not sure if it has worked. Now take tube off plume and put to one side not seeing the new magic multi coloured feather duster being held by your helper. The kids will spare no time in telling you it has worked. This is a great routine with colour-magic, participation-and the final outcome never fails to cause surprise. Give it a go! Hope you like it, Jeremy. Regards, Geoff
