Merry Switch Can - 2

Here's another great routine from Geoff Lucas

Any item that can switch/exchange-vanish/produce must be worth buying. The Merry Switch Can is so good i have two - imagine what transposition  effects you can do with two. I use this routine throughout the year although it has got a Christmas flavour.  It also goes down very well in December.
Needed: one Merry Switch Can - a string of beads for decorating Christmas trees etc. They come on a roll in different colours - red, gold or silver (you`ll find them with all the Christmas decorations in Garden Centres and card shops).  I  use silver ones.
Set Up: Place a string of beads into can proper (you can get a long piece inside easily). Put on the shell and in the shell put a number of short pieces. Mine are 6-7 inches long and i can get about 16 strands in. Put lid on.
I tell the boys and girls that I went shopping recently and ask them if they would like to see what I have bought. I tell them that I purchased some Christmas Decomerations
"You mean Decorations!" shout the kids.
"I know, but I have trouble saying decorations so I say decomerations instead." Anyway I take the lid off the can and tip beads into a glass/beaker. I tell the kids my wife wasn't happy because when I took them out of the bag they were all broken into tiny short pieces. I now hold 4-5 strands up to show kids. Then I tell them I've had a great idea - I'll wear them as earrings (I now drape a strand over one ear. Kids laugh. I then say, "I know - they're not my colour are they?" I then ask the kids to help me fix them - as we put them back into the can we will count them to see how many I have. I put lid on the can (having shown inside the lid and the hole in lid) and ask kids not to laugh as I am not very good at counting. I tell them I only went to school two days a week and it was shut - yes, Saturday and Sunday. Anyway start counting and get numbers mixed up etc. After last one is put in I ask all those that got 16 to put their hands in air /or clap as they were correct. (If you want, the beads can be given to kids to put in hole in can - give two strands to each kid. ) Shake can - count down from 5 -1 take lid off with gimmick part and toss beads in the air - catch them as they come down, making an applause cue/display. I tell kids that I will put beads on my tree when I get home. They say, "It`s not Christmas." I say, "Have I missed it? Only I go the tree out last night!"
A great routine with a simple prop  - try it.
