Square Circle Production - 1

PDF Print E-mail

This is not actually a Practical Magic prop. However, the Square Circle Production is such a universal magic item that I thought this was well worth including.

By David Sivell

Requirements:

Square Circle Production outfit
6 x  linked small silks.
1 x 30 feet multi coloured silk
1 x wand
1 x rubber goldfish
1 x pair of marigold gloves
1 x pot of gold filled with chocolate gold coins

Now some of you may have been wondering what this box is that has been
sitting up here all this time.

Well let me tell you something. It is a very magical thing. You see you may
think that it is just an empty square, with lots of holes in it (show outer
square) and you would be right. But inside we also have another empty square
(hold inner square up to face) Oh, look there's a very handsome magician
inside here!

Now, like I said this is a very magical box. You see with a magical wave of
my hand I can produce some wonderful things. And today I am going to make
just ONE beautiful scarf appear. (wave hand over box and take first silk out
- don't notice another one pops up - kids scream pointing out other silk).
Oh, I mean today I am going to produce 2 beautiful scarfs (take silk out -
don't notice another one pops up - kids scream pointing out other silk).
Oh, I mean 3, (pause)  4, (pause)  5, 6 beautiful scarfs.

(show both squares empty again). Now, just think that was all without us
even using a magic wand. Imagine what would happen if we used a magic wand.
Shall we try? O.K, after 3. 1, 2, 3 (tap box with magic wand). And look we
have another beautiful scarf (keep pulling and pulling very long rainbow
silk - pull over shoulder and keep going & going - at the end look
exhausted)
"Oh my goodness that was like a big rainbow wasn't it?

Ah, but do we all know what it is that you can usually find at the end of a
rainbow?? (look excited)That's right a pot of gold.
But do you think that we might have a pot of gold at the end of our rainbow?
Shall we have a look?"  (at this point show the tubes empty again)
"Hmm, nothing. But that can't be right. There's always some gold at the end
of every rainbow.
I know what we are forgetting, we are forgetting to say the magic words.

You see even in rainbow land you still need some magic. So after 3 let's all
say the magic word. 1, 2, 3 MAGIC WORD! And let's have a look and see if it
has worked. I'm very nervous at what I might find!!
Oh my, look at this!! - produce a goldfish - "Hmm, not the kind of gold I
was expecting, look!!!....it's a GOLDfish....!!! (show empty) He's very nice
but surely that can't be it.
Let's try again but this time let's wiggle our fingers and after 3 we will
say the magic word 1, 2, 3 MAGIC WORD. Some MariGOLDS!! If we were going to
do some washing up they would be handy but not for a magic show. (show
empty)
O.K one last time. This time let's wiggle our fingers and our toes and we
all say the magic words 1, 2, 3 MAGIC WORD. Look at that we did it!! It's a
pot of GOLD.

"Oh, that's better - some real gold coins!! Look I think I have enough for
each and every one of you and as you have been so good I will let you all
have one coin each.
Now if I give you a coin you must promise me that you won't tell your mummy
that you can make gold from magic. You see if your mummy knows that you can
make gold from magic they will all start ringing me and asking for necklaces
and bracelets and earrings and then I just don't have any time left for
magic shows.
Now that would be terrible wouldn't it?" Ok here you go but please
-Shhhhhh....!!"
