Here's a terrific complete routine - with lots of participation - from a good friend of Practical Magic - Peter Rann. It follows closely the actions on the Video Demos. “Ooo! Ooo! Ooo!” (A routine for ‘Monkey Nuts’) – By Peter Rann “Did you know that monkeys have parties where they play party games? Well they do! I’ve got one of those games here it’s called ‘Where’s the Banana?’” “Now to play this you’ve all got to pretend that you are monkeys at a monkey party. Let me hear those monkey noises with actions.
My goodness some of you have been practising!” “I found out the other day why monkeys go “Ooo! Ooo! Ooo!” A young monkey was getting into the bath when he said “Ooo! Ooo! Ooo!” And his mum said if the water’s too hot put some cold water in!” “Now the games called ‘Where’s the Banana?’ and, being nosey, monkeys always check around the back because that’s where they hide things. Well no banana there!”
“Ah! Here it is, in amongst the monkeys. The idea is to turn the banana over so that no one knows where it is. If you think you know you have to say “Ooo! Ooo! Ooo! It’s that one,” and point. I know it’s rude to point but monkeys don’t know any better. I’m sure that you don’t know where it is.”
“Perhaps that’s too easy. Let’s turn some monkeys over and then give them a mix up. There, you still think you know. This one, if you’re right you have to make a noise like a banana! If not and it’s a monkey then you have to make more monkey noises with actions. And it’s a monkey!”
“I’ll give them another mix and, to make it easier, I’ll take another monkey away – that’s a chimp off of the old block.” “Now which one? Remember, if you’re right, you have to make a noise like a banana, and it’s a monkey again!”
“That leaves two. I’ll put them face to face and then turn them around and around. I’d better stop now as I’m getting dizzy. Which one? This one? OK, ready for that banana noise, it’s a monkey!”
“One card left and at last your chance to make a noise like a banana (turn the card over and of course the children make monkey noises) No! No! banana noises it’s a … oh! It’s another nosey monkey.”
“I know what’s happened - while we’ve been making all that noise the banana has made it’s way over here to the ‘Where’s the Banana?’ card.”
(Turn the card over covering the banana in the monkey’s hand with your right hand – so that appears to be just another monkey.) “Not another monkey! Well, where’s the banana?” (Change the card to the left hand revealing the banana in the monkey’s hand – leading to more shouting.) ‘You’ve eaten it? Oh! He’s eaten it! Well isn’t that lucky - it’s saved you all from making a noise like a banana. By the way - what noise does a banana make?!!”
